Snowday Fun

It’s not just cold-weather breeds like Huskies and Malamutes who love the snow. Many dogs experience pure joy racing through fresh powder or chasing snowballs across open fields. Even a leisurely walk becomes an exciting adventure as new scents emerge beneath the snow.

Tips for playing in the snow:

• Doggy Coats: If you don’t have a northern breed, bring a waterproof puppy coat and booties to keep your dog warm. Remember, paws are sensitive, so take extra care.
• Clean towel: Regardless of breed, it’s important to dry your dog’s paws before returning indoors. It’s good for them, and for your floors.
• Thermos: To keep your water from freezing in the cold, bring it in a thermos. It doesn’t have to be warm water, but it does still need to be liquid to drink!
• Human Winter Gear: It should go without saying that you need to protect yourself against the cold as well. Wear thick waterproof coats, boots, and gloves so you can play with your pup.

Methow Trails Doggy Dash

If you are a cross-country skier, you won’t want to miss Methow Trails Doggy Dash. Every winter, owners and pups dress up in costumes and race to find the Golden Poodle award. 

The rules are simple:

• Humans must ski
• Dogs must run
• Dogs must be on a leash (for safety)
• Both must wear costumes

It's a wonderful opportunity to meet fellow pet lovers while enjoying one of the area's most fun seasonal traditions.

Puppy Spring Fever

As winter comes to an end, Methow Valley begins to bloom once again. Rivers run full with snowmelt, wildflowers return to the hillsides, and mild temperatures make spring one of the most comfortable seasons for outdoor adventures.

Wildlife Viewing

If you love your dog, chances are, you love animals too. There’s plenty of animal life around Methow Valley, and spring is the perfect time to view them! Bring a pair of binoculars and take your time along quieter trails or near wetlands, where you'll have the best chance of seeing birds returning for the season.

• Early mornings and evenings are the best viewing times
• Always view animals from a safe distance
• Dogs should be leashed to avoid disturbing wildlife
• Bring extra doggy bags to pick up after your pup on the trails

Picnic at the Park

Spring is the perfect season to pack a lunch for you and your dog and enjoy a picnic at the park. The Methow Valley is home to many parks, riverside pull-offs, and scenic overlooks where you can relax after a morning hike.

Bring a blanket, plenty of water, and a few dog-friendly treats so everyone can enjoy the break before heading out for another adventure.
